Tech’ news in brief: Palm CEO laughs off Apple iPhone

From the Mercury News article: An Apple phone? Palm CEO says, ‘What, me worry?’

“According to the Mercury News Palm CEO Ed Colligan laughed off the idea that any company – including Apple – could easily win customers in the finicky smart-phone sector.

Colligan was quoted as saying:

‘We’ve learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone … PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.’”

One word of caution: grouping Apple with the other ‘PC guys’ probably isn’t the wisest thing to do on the subject of innovation and diversification of computer technology companies.

The failures of Palm cannot be seen as the failure of all.

If Apple has managed to demonstrate anything these past 5 years, it’s their ability to move someway beyond their stable mates and produce era-defining, iconic products, such as the iMac and the iPod.

A big thanks to Carl Grint for the heads-up on this one, which quite smoothly ties in with yesterday’s post regarding what I’d want from the Apple iPhone
