Socialize Me! Plugin for WordPress 1.0 update
Monday, 13 October 2008 — by Wayne Smallman
Bringing the Socialize Me! Plugin for WordPress bang up to date, I’ve added support for 14 new websites, including Identi.ca, Vimeo, Ustream and Multiply…
It’s been a long time coming I know, but the update is finally here — the Socialize Me! Plugin for WordPress is now officially at version 1.0 and supports WordPress 2.6.x
Installation instructions
For complete installation instructions, please visit the original Social Me! launch page.
To upgrade your current version of the Socialize Me! Plugin:
- Download the Plugin
- Decompress the ZIP archive
- Using an FTP client, upload and replace the old copy
All of your previous settings will be safe, so don’t worry about losing anything.
The new supported websites include:
Identi.ca
Bright Kite
Vimeo
iLike
Vox
Wink
Ustream
AOL Pictures
NowPublic
Rejaw
Multiply
Xanga
ImageShack
Diigo
I’ve also made some mechanical changes to how Socialize Me! works, but unless you’re planning on making any changes to the code yourself, I wouldn’t even bother remembering what I just said!
For those with suggestions for other websites, or if you’re looking for a little help getting my Plugin to work on your WordPress blog, pay a visit to the Socialize Me! Page on Facebook.
Compatible websites
It’s worth noting that not all websites can be supported. Because of the spurious ways some of the websites create profile URLs, it’s simply not possible to tease out the username, which is essential for Socialize Me! to do its magic.
As an example, Photo Bucket inserts what appears to be a random dollop of numbers and letters into the URL, which may mean something to the guys at Photo Bucket, but for the purposes of the Socialize Me! Plugin, I really don’t want to be sat here programming around every capricious coding convention.
