Webware 100 Awards needs your vote!
Monday, 10 March 2008 — by Wayne Smallman
While most of the US puzzle over who should be the next Democratic candidate, the Webware 100 Awards are well underway — and they need your vote!
More and more of what we do in our daily lives happens has a stream of ones & zeros, cast throughout the innards of one web application or another.
Be it Basecamp, StumbleUpon, iTunes, Yahoo! Messenger or WordPress — our business and personal needs are managed within the warm magical ether that we call the web.
But which are the instantly indispensable and the definitely disposable? Well here’s your chance to decide.
Webware 100 wants your vote
Slightly different to the issues surrounding recent politics, the reasons for your involvement in voting on the Webware 100 Awards is that you could well give some much needed attention to an up-and-coming web application that you couldn’t live without — but others know nothing about!
The categories within which your favorites are to be found are:
- Audio — Music, podcasts, audiobooks.
- Browsing — Browsers, start pages, RSS readers, widgets, runtime engines.
- Commerce and events — Retail, auctions, travel, real estate, concerts, conferences.
- Communication — E-mail, chat, voice.
- Productivity — Application suites, to-do lists, groupware.
- Publishing and photography — Blogging, content management, photo sites.
- Search and reference — Search engines, encyclopedias, mapping.
- Social — Social networking, family sites, recommendations, online worlds, contests.
- Utility and security — Infrastructure providers, storage, online protection.
- Video — Video storage, playback, streaming, editing, and animation.
And while you’re in a suitably democratic mood, why not (if you haven’t done so already) let us know which is your favorite Social Network or Social Media website?
