Apple to breath fresh Air into wireless technology?

Tuesday, 15 January 2008 — by Wayne Smallman

Apple looks set to Air something new at Macworld 2008 in San Francisco. Rumors abound as to what Apple has in mind. What if Apple really are thinking different — about wireless technology?

For me, most of the rumors are just so much hot air. Mundane in scope. Pedestrian, almost. Let’s step outside of the hum-drum Mac rumor mill, have a little fun and go sideways…

Say hello to Apple PowerShare!

What if Apple mean to go totally wireless? And not just for connectivity, either.

For those more familiar with the idea behind Inductive Charging, Apple could really take wireless computing to an entirely new level:

“What if Apple was to build inductive coils into their MacBook and MacBook Pro line, as well as the Mac Mini and the iMac? Imagine being able to charge your iPod or your iPhone wherever there’s a Mac?

Better yet, what if you could share power and data at the same time?”

Municipal Wi-Fi, courtesy of Google and Apple

We all know about Google’s ambitions for municipal wireless networking. By turning Wi-Fi into a commodity, internet access as a basic human right moves a step closer.

And with Apple in lock step, more attention could be focused on this goal, by getting all of those MacBook-toting lovely young things in on the agenda as well, acting as unpaid Apple über advocates.

Just a thought, or two…
